Video Production

Award-winning editorial storytelling produced for phones or wide-screen TVs. Video tells an essential part of a larger story, but it doesn’t usually tell the whole story. Thoughtful scriptwriting, music choices, animation, and graphics can fill out the package.

Construction video is a specialty. Prior to Dan’s two-decade career as a construction editor, he was a house carpenter for almost a decade. He knows what will happen next, where to stand to get the shot, and which safety and code violations to crop out.

Audio Production

The most important part of video is audio. And the most important part of audio is—AUDIO. Podcasts can tell an intimate story that visual-based info delivery cannot because it removes the visual aspect and forces imagination.

Dan was an early adopter, launching podcasts with Green Building Advisor in 2010, a Fine Homebuilding podcast in 2012, 7 Minutes of BS in 2016, and Career Toolbox in 2019.

He has a complete home studio and also has excellent relationships with professional sound studios.

Construction Animation

Construction animations that show proper product installation and construction sequences. Animation is an effective way to create affordable ‘explainer videos' and is even better when paired with job site construction footage showing the same details. Dan works with Sketchup to build 3D models and then builds scenes in the animation to walk through a workflow. Finishing touches are done in Final Cut Pro.

Dan has relationships with animators capable of even more intricate designs if needed.

Residential Construction Communications

Dan has been speaking to residential construction professionals, enthusiasts, DIY-ers, and consumers for two decades, leading and launching many of the top construction media brands, such as Fine Homebuilding and Green Building Advisor (Taunton Press), Builder Magazine (Hanley Wood Business Media), and most recently, ProTradeCraft.com (SGC Horizon).

His tried and trusted device? Pickup truck language, which he speaks fluently. Dan also has a trusted web of writers and editors to fit the size and scope of media needs.

Content Strategy

Editorial calendars outline what goes where, when, and how various platforms can cross-pollinate each other. We look at content strategy as an ecosystem of content types:

“Build big things out of little things
and make little things from big things.”

We understand the ‘editorial ecosystem’ of which print and digital are but small pieces. Live events, email newsletters, social media channels, and mobile apps are other parts of the puzzle that must fit into the food chain of content development. He sees each piece as a tool, not a burden.

Experience leading two of North America’s largest construction media brands to digital-first workflows and launching two important digital resources for construction professionals, our editorial expertise spans consumer and business-to-business publications in many media forms.

Fluent in many CMS platforms, we also understand social media marketing, strategy, and advertising.

Documentary Filmmaking

A newer passion. Dan’s first official documentary film, His Truth is Marching On, won an Award of Merit from the Connecticut League of History Organizations in 2023 and has been winning standing ovations since its official screening in late October 2022.
